SUPER DEMOCRACY - The Senate of Things

Three cultural institutions enter into a dialogue with the Belgian Senate during the exhibition SUPERDEMOCRACY, which is on display throughout October. BPS22 in Charleroi, BOZAR in Brussels and M HKA in Antwerp provide a cultural dimension to the Senate’s current issues.

Emilio López-Menchero was invited to take part in the collective project Le Grand Large. Territoire de la Pensée, which was featured in “Mons 2015. European Capital of Culture”. Artists were offered the chance to create a flag. López-Menchero chose to mark his flag with a unique feature of his identity, his fingerprint. By doing so the artist opposed the claims banners have for uniting under a single simple emblem. The design of a ‘personal flag’, in which he can express himself in all his non-reproducible identity, leads to the loss of any political or collective meaning the flag might hold.
